Advent is observed by Christians as a season of spiritual preparation and waiting for the coming (or birth) of Jesus Christ at Christmas. Traditionally, Advent begins on the fourth Sunday prior to Christmas Day or the Sunday closest to November 30, depending upon how the dates fall in a calendar year.
This year Advent begins on Sunday, November 27, 2016.
Every year, as we prepare to celebrate Jesus’ birthday (Christmas), decorations and symbols adorn homes, churches and public displays. Christmas trees, wreaths, garlands and more lovely familiar decor add beauty to this joyful holiday. Each has special meaning.
